5 Lash Aftercare Mistakes | We See All the Time

You’ve just left your lash appointment with a fresh, fluffy set & you’re obsessed with them!

But what you do after your lash appointment can make a huge difference in how your lashes look & how long they will last…

As a lash business & lash techs ourselves, there are a few aftercare mistakes we see again & again.

The good news? They’re all really easy to avoid.

Here are 5 of the most common lash aftercare mistakes & what you should be doing instead.

1. Using products that aren’t lash-friendly

Not all skincare & makeup products are suitable for eyelash extensions.

Heavy oils, certain makeup removers & oily eye products can affect lash retention & leave your eyelash extensions looking less defined & cause them to lose their fluffy appearance sooner.

Instead, check that the products you’re using around your eyes are suitable for eyelash extensions, particularly your cleanser & makeup remover.

2. Avoiding cleaning your lashes because you think it will ruin them

This is one of the biggest lash myths!

Your eyelash extensions need to be kept clean, & regular gentle cleansing is an important part of good lash aftercare.

Leaving sweat, makeup, oils & everyday build-up sitting around your lash line can actually cause problems with lash retention & cleanliness.

Instead, gently cleanse your lashes with a lash-safe cleanser & rinse thoroughly.

And remember – clean lashes are happy lashes!

3. Rubbing, pulling or picking at your lashes

Sometimes you notice a lash that’s slightly out of place & your first instinct is to touch it.

But rubbing, pulling or picking can damage your natural lashes & cause your eyelash extensions to shed prematurely.

Instead, leave your lashes alone as much as possible.

If something feels uncomfortable or doesn’t look right, speak to your lash tech rather than trying to fix it yourself.

4. Sleeping with your face pressed into your pillow

If you’re a stomach or side sleeper, this one can be tricky!

Constant pressure & friction against your pillow can cause your eyelash extensions to become tangled, twisted or shed more quickly.

Instead, try sleeping on your back where possible.

A silk pillowcase can also help reduce friction while you sleep.

5. Waiting too long between infills

Your natural lashes naturally shed as part of their growth cycle, which means your eyelash extensions will gradually shed too.

Waiting too long between lash appointments can mean you’re left with fewer eyelash extensions & may need a new full set rather than an infill.

Instead, keep up with your recommended infill schedule.

Your lash tech can advise you on how often you should return based on your natural lash cycle, lifestyle & the lash style you have chosen.

The secret to better lash retention?

Good aftercare doesn’t need to be complicated.

Clean them. Be gentle with them. Don’t pick them. Avoid unnecessary friction & keep up with your lash infill appointments.

Taking a couple of minutes each day to properly care for your lashes can help keep them looking fresh, fluffy & beautiful for longer.

If you’re ever unsure about your aftercare, just ask your lash tech.

Your lashes deserve a little TLC at home!
