January has a way of getting into your head…

The festive season is now over.

The salon buzz has definitely slowed down, & your diary doesn’t look as full as it did a month ago!

Suddenly, you start asking questions:

  • Have I done something wrong?
  • Were my clients happy with their treatments?
  • Why have they not re-booked? 

 

If you’re feeling any of the above right now, pause for a moment & reset & remember…

January is not a reflection on you & your business! 

Moreover, you are still as fabulous as you were last year & the year before!

It’s ok to feel these emotions.

January is such a long month, bills still keep coming & your revenue has almost disappeared!

This is a passing phase, every new year we experience January blues & question ourselves!

 

Slower bookings in January happen to almost every lash tech, at every level!

Therefore, quieter months have a way of feeling personal, even though they’re not.

The start of the new year is always influenced by finances, weather, routine changes, & post-holiday burnout.

Understandably, the beauty industry has always slowed down in January, & we never seem to get used to it!

Your Lash & Beauty Skills Didn’t Disappear Overnight

  • You didn’t suddenly forget how to apply lashes & do beauty treatments
  • Your clients haven’t completely forgotten about you
  • You still have a great business

Additionally, the work you created last year is still proof of what you’re capable of today!

Your self-confidence can be affected when business is slow.

Therefore, the demand is just slightly paused for now & will return in February!

It’s ok to reset & make new goals in January 

There is a lot of pressure in the lash & beauty industry to always be fully booked

To always be posting on social media channels.

January is allowed to be a little different.

Taking a breath does not mean you’ve lost momentum.

Stepping back does not mean you’re giving up.

Rest is not the opposite of motivation & ambition.

Rest is needed & makes long-term business success possible!

Competition seems to hit harder in quieter months

When things slow down, it’s easy to scroll through social media channels aimlessly & overthink things.

“Everyone else is booked”
“Everyone else is thriving”
“Everyone else is better than me”

What you don’t see:

  • Other lash artists & beauticians are also questioning themselves

  • All salon diaries will be less booked, not just yours

  • Others will be feeling just the same as you

Even the lash artists/beauticians you follow & admire on socials.

The ones you aspire to become!

The ones who seem successful & confident.

They will also feel the January blues & be questioning themselves just as you are.

Business will pick up in the next four weeks or so…

  • January is a perfect time to learn new skills, techniques & keep your salon ahead of the trends
  • A positive outlook for yourself & your staff will reflect in your business & your clients will love this!
  • Set clear & achievable goals
  • Consider hosting a low-key event with demos & mini treatments to show appreciation to your loyal clients & hopefully gain new ones
  • Make the most out of social media, engage your audience & build your brand
  • Use high-quality images & videos on platforms like: Instagram, Facebook, & TikTok to showcase you & your business
  • Showcase client transformations, products & client testimonials
  • Tap into the upcoming Wedding season
  • Optimise your online presence, update your Google My Business page, & make sure all links are working
  • Promote your business through marketing campaigns such as newsletters & SMS messaging
  • Collaborate with other local businesses in your community, i.e. gyms, local boutique, local shops, etc.
  • Reviewing your pricelists
  • Review your salon menu & see what you could add in the new year

 

Take this time to have a good clear out, especially out-of-date products & equipment & write lists of what you need & why.

De-cluttering is good for the mind & will make you focus on where you are heading!

January will pass & you will still be here; a professional, skilled, capable, & fabulous business owner!
